Cat Welcomes Our Newest Author ~ Dave Lager & His Fantastic Action/Crime Novel Series To The Reading Den…

I am happy to welcome Dave Ramacitti aka, Dave Lager and his hard-hitting action packed crime novel series of “Ro Delahanty.” I was excited to learn that the lead character is written around a woman warrior, Ro, trying to make her dream of being a police officer come true. I am about halfway reading book one of Dave’s series, and WOW!

Dave’s former experiences in journalism shines within his writing, as I’m sure he saw it all when doing so, and the first thing that hit me was the attention to detail in the storyline in his writing. I’m enjoying it and the dry musings here and there.

I am happy to have Dave as a new friend and fellow author as I welcome him into our author family. Let’s learn “who Dave Lager is,” the seasoned writer who brings Ro Delahanty to life within the pages of his novel series as I finished reading book one Ro’s Handle: A Ro Delahanty Novel

Novelist Dave Lager

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Author Dave Lager is the pen name of Dave Ramacitti. The pen name is actually a derivative of a pet name used for her brother by his real-life sister, not unlike Ro’s unique name for Tuck, her brother.

Theoretically, Dave is the author of the Ro Delahanty novels. However, it feels more like he is the one transcribing as Ro dictates to him her story of finding herself in dangerous situations and discovering what it means to be a cop and a warrior. She is not reluctant to wake him up in the middle of the night with an idea for a new chapter.

Three novels in the Ro Delahanty series are now available: “Ro’s Handle,” “Hear Evil,” and “Losses” The fourth, “Secrets Never End,” should be released early 2022, while the fifth, “Secrets Never End: Revelations” should be out later in 2022. Dave has made his career in journalism and marketing and published several books under his given name for the small business market. Dave’s careers included working as a newspaper reporter and magazine editor and publisher, and as a marketing /public relations consultant helping small business be more effective marketers.

Dave and his wife of nearly thirty years are still best friends. They are pet lovers with 80% cute /20% brat puppy named Sofie and a laconic cat named Mr. Squeaks. They all reside in Western Illinois alongside the beautiful Mississippi River.

You Never Know Where Dave Will Show Up Next!

MORE ABOUT THE RO DELAHANTY NOVELS

Book One and Book Three a New Release

Book One – Introduction to
Ro’s Handle: A Ro Delahanty Novel

An overzealous rookie cop. A biased old-boys club. Will she have to shoot her way in?

Ro Delahanty never let her dream of becoming a cop out of her sights. Between years of black-belt judo lessons and sharpshooting championships, she thought she could handle anything the academy threw her way. But as the only female rookie on the force, she soon discovers it’ll take a warrior’s determination to get out from behind the desk and into the action.

Knowing she’ll have to work twice as hard for half the respect, she refuses to let distractions like a new boyfriend blobtnck her target. And her sacrifices will be well worth it if she can secure a “handle” that brands her as an equal instead of the butt of a joke.

When a simple field assignment spirals into a heavily-armed hostage standoff, will Ro and her trusty Sig Sauer P229 .357 aim true or will she miss the shot she’s trained her whole life to take?

Ro’s Handle is the first book in the gritty Ro Delahanty police procedural series. If you like tenacious heroines, crime scene drama, and high-octane shootouts, then you’ll love David Lager’s torn-from-the-headlines tale.

**********************************

Book Two – (Newer Release!) – Hear Evil: Book Two in the Ro Delahanty Series

She works hard to serve and protect. But now her dad’s in danger, and nothing in her training can defend him…

Rookie deputy sheriff Ro Delahanty only wants to uphold the law and make her father proud. And after a long day dealing with bar fights, pranksters, and car crashes, sometimes her only solace is their shared love of classical music. But she’s in for her toughest case yet when her dad, Big Mike, is struck down by a mysterious sickness…

Retracing Big Mike’s steps, she learns he attended a concert along with other victims, who are suffering from the same unexplainable symptoms. And the deeper she digs for the truth, the more she fears the incomprehensible culprit may be immune to any of her usual weapons.

Can Ro uncover the answers and save her father before his final note plays?

Hear Evil is the second book in the thrilling Ro Delahanty police procedural series. If you like intriguing cases, determined heroines, and supernatural mysteries, then you’ll love Dave Lager’s thought-provoking novel.

**********************************

Book Three(New Release!) – Losses: Book Three in the Ro Delahanty Series

Ten years ago Ro Delahanty announced to her fifth grade schoolmates she wanted to be a cop when she grew up. Unlike most kids, she didn’t change her mind a half-dozen times along the way.

Instead, she trained herself for the job by earning a black belt in judo and becoming a champion pistol shooter.

Now a rookie Fort Armstrong County deputy sheriff, she has to contend with being the only female on the force — will she be accepted as an equal? …with wondering what her “handle” — a nickname deputies informally “award” to fellow deputies — will be, and whether it will be one she can live with.

…and, after two years of self-imposed celibacy, with the unexpected arrival of a “complication” in her personal life.

But her ultimate test comes when four bad guys with assault rifles capture a fellow deputy and, armed only with her Sig Sauer P229 .357, she has to face them single-handed in a shootout.

Ro learns not only what it means to be a cop, but what it means to be a true warrior against those that want to do harm to those she is sworn to protect.

Author Aunt Anne Fifield Stops By The Reading Den For a New Interview. Cat Chatted and Got The Scoop on Her Next Children’s Book. . .

Children’s Books by Anne Fifield

Well, Cat happened to chat by phone with our fabulous children’s author and writer, Mrs. Anne Fifield, and the bassets Piper and Finny not too long ago. Anne told me she is feverishly working on finishing the fifth book of her ‘Princess Caroline’s Adventures’ series.

That might mean the tots will have a new book to read for Christmas; we will have to see how that plays out. But without further ado, here is a more recent interview with Anne all about her doggie series for children, first seen on Deb Carney’s Book Goodies site! It’s where readers and authors meet!  ~Cat Lyon

Interview with Author – Anne Fifield

By Book Goodies – October 2021

Author Anne Fifield

About Anne Fifield:
Anne Fifield is the creative visionary and best-selling children’s author of “The Princess Caroline’s Adventures” book series. Written for ages 7 to 12 and the young at heart, she is delighting kids worldwide. Her books are unique as she weaves in the elements of her rescued doggies, specifically basset hounds, into each of her stories and book covers.

Her first titled ‘The Princess’ Hand’ was released in August 2019, book two titled ‘Trip to Lake Ahrooo’ released in September 2020, book three followed in November 2020 with ‘The Hunt for the Jeweled Swords,’ and book four newly released in August 2021 titled ‘The Missing Knight.’ All are available on Amazon Books, Amazon Kindle, & many fine online book sites.

Anne is the youngest of three siblings and was born and raised outside Oklahoma City, OK. She met and married the love of her life, Tom, and they have been married for 24+years. Their kids are the four-legged variety who had adopted them over the years.

Anne’s career was also her passion. She was an ‘American Sign Language Interpreter’ for over 25-years and taught ASL at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Since both were her passions, she says she felt like she never worked a day in her life.

In 2006, she became heavily involved in basset rescue, and co-founded another one in 2011.

Anne, now retired, decided to move on to her next passion, the love of writing. She and her husband have rescued and fostered basset hounds for 20-years, so as Anne shares, “It felt natural to write children’s books with bassets as the characters. Our hounds provide the comic antics and inspiration for all my books.

Thus, ‘Princess Caroline’s Adventures Series’ was born. All the characters in her books are named after actual rescue dogs. Their pictures are in the back of each book. A portion of her royalties are given to various rescues. So, read a great book, and help a dog in need at the same time.

Anne and her husband enjoy retired life and reside in the ‘Great State of Texas.’

A Couple of Cast Members In Anne’s Books
Meet Piper & Finny!

What inspires you to write?
Inspiration can come from anywhere. Keep your eyes and ears open, and be aware of your surroundings. You never know what might spark an idea for a story.

One day at the grocery store, I heard these two ladies chatting. One said something outrageous. It was sarcastic and full of humor. I loved it. When I arrived home, I wrote that line down and created an entire story from that one quote. And, of course, that line was in the book!

Now, my bassets are my inspiration. They’ll do something hilarious and I’ll think, “I must use that in the next book.”

What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
I love mystery and suspense. I grew up reading Nancy Drew books and Agatha Christie. Now, I enjoy Patricia Cornwell and James Patterson.

Tell us about your writing process.
I’m definitely an outliner, plus my Type A personality keeps me focused and organized.

Once a story idea hits me, I’ll write a general outline in MS Word. I’ll list all the plot and story lines. I’m a visual learner. So, seeing it in black-and-white assists me to write it.

Once I see it on paper, I revise it to add the three acts. Then, I make sure the nine checkpoints for the basic story structure are there.

After I have the plot and story lines down. I work on character sketches. I continue developing the character arcs during the writing process. I make sure they have flaws to overcome. No one is perfect – not even a basset.

As I actually write the story, many times it takes me down a road I hadn’t thought of before. The same for my characters. Sometimes they take over and write their own stories.

For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Oh yes! I’ll say, “Caroline, what are you thinking? Why in the world are you doing that?” She’ll either answer me or stick her tongue out at me.

What advice would you give other writers?
Hone your craft. Take classes, webinars, and the like to learn and give you confidence. You’ll continue the educational process along the way.

Don’t be afraid to start writing, but realize writing is rewriting. Don’t be afraid of rewriting either. It’ll help to polish and smooth your prose. Even famous authors rewrite their stories numerous times before they’re ready to be published. Don’t be resistant or surprised by that.

How did you decide how to publish your books?
After conversing with my instructors and other authors, I decided to go the self-publishing route. Plus, the writing groups I’m with encouraged me to take that path, too.

I’m an Indie author. This means I have a professional team consisting of an editor, (she performs a developmental edit and later a line edit.) illustrator, formatter, and several beta readers and advanced readers. I’m thrilled I made that decision. I have total control over my books and the marketing of such.

What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Since it’s difficult for a new, unknown author to be picked-up by an agent or traditional publisher, I think the Indie publishing route will continue to grow.

What genres do you write?:
Middle grade children’s books, mystery and suspense.

What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print

Princess Caroline of Basset Hound Kingdom is off on another adventure with the twins, Willow and Daisy. It all starts when they scrounge around in the dark, dirty castle cellars, their own version of a treasure hunt. They find a journal written by Knight Theo Howler, and they set off on a quest to reunite this mysterious knight with his journal.

The journey takes them to the St. Bernard Kingdom, where everything is bigger, and evil is afoot. But the knight is somewhere in this kingdom, and the basset hound royalty won’t leave without finding him. Danger lurks everywhere as even the princess’s life is threatened. Will they find the knight and make everything right again to return to their own Basset Hound Kingdom?

Anne Fifield’s middle-grade novel, Princess Caroline’s Adventures: The Missing Knight, is the fourth book of this series. The plot has everything an adventure-seeking young reader could want in an exciting story where the main characters are basset hounds and St. Bernard’s. The characters are well developed and believable (as all dogs are), and the setting is adequately described.

There’s lots of dialogue to make the plot development easier for the early reader to follow. With a few instances of humor, including the carriage ride driven by the not-so-experienced so-called driver, this is a light and entertaining read mixed with just enough adventure and good against evil conflict. The sepia tone illustrations add to the plot development and help the young reader feel part of the story. Another great read to inspire young readers to love books.”

“Reviewed By Emily-Jane Hills Orford for Readers’ Favorite

“For the Soul: A Collection of Short Stories was written by Barbara Daniels-Dena. Quilts, children, and dogs – what more can life offer? Well, stories, of course. And, where there are quilts, children, and dogs, there’s bound to be lots of stories. Life is full of stories: funny stories, heart-wrenching and heart-warming stories, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Like the author, I recall spending hours rifling through my grandmother’s button box.

There were all kinds of buttons: large, small, brightly colored, shiny, or dull. These buttons were a source of inspiration for stories, learning to count, learning the colors, and just savoring the precious moments spent with my grandmother. Life and those accessories we collect during our lifetime are full of stories. But so are our imaginations, our dreams, and the random thoughts that swirl around in our heads – so many stories to share.

Barbara Daniels-Dena’s book, For the Soul: A Collection of Short Stories, is a marvelous collection of stories the author wrote through the years. Each one is dated and, like the one about the black-turned-white crow with a hidden agenda and a secret message, there is often a footnote of what or who inspired the story.

Each story is complete and succinctly told with great attention to detail, though often sparsely revealed in the author’s clever way of leaving the spaces between the lines loaded with veiled messages. The plots are compelling and the characters well defined, making this collection an enjoyable read: not to be read all at once, but to be savored over time.”

Her favorite flower is the “Casablanca Lily.” Her favorite color is Red, and when she isn’t writing, Barbara spends her free time oil painting, enjoys quilting, knitting, and reading.

Her favorite book is “Death Be Not Proud” by John J. Gunther. Her first love is and always will be playing with her fur baby, a little Yorkie named Zoe. She continues to write from her cozy nook as she gazes over a pond full of geese and ducks. On many days it is more gazing than writing.

ABOUT THE BOOK

For the Soul Kindle Edition

Memories and fiction fill this collection with humor, heartwarming compassion, and spine-tingling fright from the author’s own experiences and an imagination she can barely control. Quilts, children, and dogs have always played a large part in the author’s life. Therefore, it is not surprising to find stories of warm quilts wrapped around her tales or tails.

A trait the reader discovers in Barbara’s writing is that much like life, nothing within the covers of this book will be what one expects.

E-Book Flash Sale In Celebration of Author Roger Stark’s New Paperback Novel Release Titled ~ “They Called Him Marvin: A History of Love, War, and Family.”

Written By Roger Stark ~ Releases Sept. 1st, 2021

“They were the fathers we never knew, the uncles we never met, the friends who never returned, the heroes we can never repay. They gave us our world. And those simple sounds of freedom we hear today are their voices speaking to us across the years.” Former President Bill Clinton

Such a man was 1st Lt Dean Harold Sherman, B-29 Airplane Commander.

“They Called Him Marvin” is a history. A history of war and of family. A history of the collision of the raging politics of a global war, young love, patriotism, sacred family commitments, duty and the horrors and tragedies, the catastrophe that war is.

Special Book Review

Almost a memoir… A Chick Lit Cafe’ Review:

They Called Him Marvin by Roger Stark is a merger between American and Japanese events during WWII, and the very human reality of one American pilot and his love letters to his wife. The candor in their loving correspondence, and the stark reality of war, clash against each other within the pages of this book. Like the major and minor notes being pulled from an orchestra by a master conductor, history is brought to life and the full impact of war is felt.

I remember watching Tenco many years ago and weeping over the atrocities inflicted on prisoners in Japanese prison of war camps. The horrors of it stayed with me and I often steer clear of anything to do with war in books or films these days. However, I am so glad I came across this super book. The author has met Connie – the wife of Dean, whose love letters fill this book, and this brings everything to life, injecting real substance and making this book stand out from a lot of other war stories.

What I loved the most in this ‘almost-a-memoir’ is the view of the pilots from the Japanese perspective. The story of Riku and his family is very moving, and I appreciate the accounting of history from both countries, it is thoroughly moving as well as educational. Bringing the reader’s focus constantly back to Dean and Connie was an ingenious way to remind us that war involves real people, not just figures on a page.

This story is a beautiful account of a horrific time in history and should be read by everyone… lest we forget. Roger Stark presents us with a very human experience of WWII. This is the kind of book that should be on every high school curriculum. It is awash with facts, but expressed in such a way as to grip the reader and hold their attention.

Packed with historical content, and portrayed with a vibrant pen, They Called Him Marvin by Roger Stark comes very highly recommended by Chick Lit Café. TN Traynor. Almost a memoir…

Roger In His Secret Writing Headquarters (lol)

“I am, by my own admission, a reluctant writer. But there are stories that demand to to be told. When we hear them, we must pick up our pen, lest we forget and the stories be lost.

Six years ago, in a quiet conversation with my friend Marvin, I learned the tragic story his father, a WW2 B-29 Airplane Commander, shot down over Nagoya, Japan just months before the end of the war.

Bill Clinton has famously said: “They were the fathers we never knew, the uncles we never met, the friends who never returned, the heroes we can never repay. They gave us our world. And those simple sounds of freedom we hear today are their voices speaking to us across the years.”

Such a man was Marv’s father. A father he never knew. The telling of the story that evening by this half orphan was so moving and full of emotion, it compelled me to ask if I could write the story. The result being “They Called Him Marvin.”

My life has been profoundly touched in so many ways by being part of documenting this sacred story. I pray that we never forget, as a people, the depth of sacrifice that was made by ordinary people like Marvin and his father and mother on our behalf.

My career as an addiction counselor (CDP) lead me to write “The Waterfall Concept; A Blueprint for Addiction Recovery,” and co-author “Reclaiming Your Addicted Brain.”

After my counseling retirement, I decided I wanted to learn more about the craft of writing and started attending classes at Portland Oregon’s Attic Institute. What I learned is that there are an mazing number of great writers in my area and they were willing to help others improve their skills. I am grateful to many of them.

My next project is already underway, a memoir of growing in SW Washington called “Life on a Sorta Farm.” My wife of 49 years, Susan and I still live in that area.

We raised seven children, and have eleven grandchildren. We love to travel and see the sites and cultures of the world. I still get on my bicycle whenever I can.”
