( Author, Vinnie Sorce and his new book, Jersey Justice )

One of my favorite book websites to visitĀ is my UK buddy, Mr. Kevin Cooper called, “Kev’s Domain ~ Kev’s Great Indie Authors.”

It is a great place for bothĀ authors and readers and has a fresh new look to his site. He showcases indie authors, new books, book reviews and more. And being an author himself, he does a wonderful job in presenting many authors and their books and novels on his website.

Now you are wondering why I would give some love to another book promoter? Well, I have known Kevin a long time, and he did my book and author showcase a few years back when my first book came out. AND? Trust me, there are plenty of new indie authors looking for help to promote their books to go around. I recommend many of my book clients and readersĀ to visit Kev’s site.

A Short Bio

Vinnie Sorce is an award-winning* author debuting his first book, Jersey Justice.

He’s been a writer for over ten years, selling articles and short stories along with blogging.

He grew up in North Jersey and currently lives in Arizona with one remaining child that hasn’t escaped yet. He likes to read, watch too much TV, wear his heart on his sleeve, and over examine situations that haven’t occurred yet.

Oh, and he eventually wants to save the world. No super powers are making that a difficult job, though.

*Now, when I say award-winning, I mean an award I made up and gave to myself. It was a beautiful ceremony. I cried.
.

Kev: What is your latest book about?

JerseyJustice.

It’s about a bullied youth who grows up to help people who can’t help themselves. His life is complicated by his off the wall sister, and his best childhood friend, Marci, who is slowly becoming his lover.

Kev: Who or what influenced you to write it?

Janet Evanovich and her Stephanie plum series was my influence. I grew up in North Jersey and loved the idea of having it set in such a familiar place.

Kev: Did you do any specialised research for your story?

Nope. Since the location was so familiar that was easy, and it’s fiction, so I improvised everything else!

Kev: What challenges did you face while writing the story?

The absolute biggest challenge was finding the time to write. A full-time job, and three kids make that difficult.

Kev:Ā  Who is the protagonist?

Jimmy Vincent is my main man. I came up with his name and the title, Jersey Justice, first.

Kev: What would you say is the protagonist’s greatest weakness or obstacle and why?

His biggest weakness is his want to save the world and knowing he can’t do that.

Kev: What would you say is the main antagonist’s greatest strength?

He doesn’t realize it, but his greatest strengths are the people (characters) around him.

Kev: Could you provide a short passage from your book to give us a taster?

JerseyJusticeā€œWhat the hell did you do?ā€ he asked in dismay, hand to his head and covered in blood.

ā€œI fought back,ā€ was all I said calmly with a smile as I walked away, tucking the pistol into my jacket pocket. From now on, it would always be with me. This was a message to the scum of the world. From now on, it would be different.

Kev: Do you use some kind of formula when you write?

Not even a little bit. I just sit and write and it comes tumbling out. . . .

Kev: Preference for writing: Day or Night?Ā

Not so much a preference as necessity. I write at night after work and after dinner.

Kev: What is your editing process?

When I have no juice left I start rereading what I already have and go from there.

Kev: Who creates your book covers?

I have a marketing friend who created this cover.

Kev: How do you promote your work?

Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn I also just hired a promoter who is getting me and the book out there.

Kev: What advice would you offer to new authors?

Don’t give up is the biggest advice I could give. Just keep writing and submitting, or go ahead and self-publish.

Kev: Which two social media platforms do you use the most and why?(Include links)

Twitter and Facebook are the two I use the most. I guess because I understand them, and am the most familiar with them.

https://twitter.com/vinniesorce

https://www.facebook.com/Vinnie.sorce.author

Kev: Do you have a website?

https://vinster82.wordpress.com/628-2/

Kev: Is there anything else you would like to add?

I am currently 80 pages into the sequel, Jersey Jezebel. Look for it soon!

Vinnie sorce, everyone!

Maine Author & Illustrator, Bette A Stevens ~ Her new book, Dog Bone Soup: A Boomer’s Journey
{Author/Illustrator, Desktop Publisher, Retired Teacher, Hartland, Maine}

DBS A remarkable tale

dog bone soup

And now, there’s the rest of the story.Ā DOG BONEĀ SOUPĀ is the long-awaitedĀ ā€œrest of the storyā€of Shawn Daniels and his brother.Ā Bette Stevens novel is now available for your reading pleasure. And it is a pleasure.

Bette has the purest, freshest writing style I’ve read in many a long year. Reading her prose is like peering into an exceptionally clear, deep pool. It looks like the bottom is close enough to touch, but watch out. Those waters run deep.

This author knows how to tell a story. Her style and the story are a perfect blend. Like the clear water, this author runs deep,

DOG BONE SOUP is a wonderful story. It’s a coming of inĀ a hardscrabble world, armed only with courage, determination, intelligence, and grit. Sometimes, that’s enough.

PURE TRASH: BETTE AĀ STEVENS – The Prequel
There are so many television shows and movies, not to mention sappy posts on Facebook and other social media sites about ā€œthe good old daysā€ … kind of makes me a trifle queasy. As someone who grew up in those good old days, I can attest to their not being all that great. There were good things about them, but it was by no means all roses.

Good is a relative term, after all. If you were white, Christian and middle class … preferably male and not (for example) a woman with professional ambitions … the world was something resembling your oyster. A family could live on one salary. If you were ā€œregular folkā€ and didn’t stand out in any particular way, life could be gentle and sweet.

The thing is, an awful lot of people aren’t and weren’t people who could blend in. If you were poor, anything but white or Christian, or a woman who wanted to be more than a mother and homemaker, the world was a far rougher place.

Pure Trash: The Story: Shawn Daniels in a Poor Boy’s Adventure: 1950s Rural New EnglandĀ is set in rural New England in the mid 1950s. It’s a sharp reminder how brutal our society could be to those deemed different or inferior. Not only was bullying common, it wasn’t considered wrong.

I remember how badly the poor kids in my class were treated when I was going through elementary school. How the teachers took every opportunity to humiliate kids whose clothing was tattered and whose shoes were worn. I remember feeling awful for those little girls and boys.

Not merely bullied by their classmates (who oddly, didn’t much notice the differences until the teachers pointed them out), but tormented by those who were supposed to care for and protect them. Bad enough for me and the handful of Jewish kids as Christmas rolled around. For them, it was the wrong time of year all year round.

In this short story, Shawn and Willie Daniels set off one Saturday in search of whatever they can find that they can turn into money. One man’s trash can be a poor child’s treasure. Bottles that people throw away could be collected and turned into ice cream and soda pop. Shawn is excited. It’s going to be a terrific day. Until the real world intrudes and Shawn is sharply and painfully reminded that he’s different … and not in a good way.

The story is about bullying, but more important, it’s about being different and being judged without compassion, without understanding or love.

It’s a very fast read. Only 21 pages, the story flies by. I was left wanting more. I want to know how the boys grow up. I want them to become CEOs of big corporations so they can thumb their noses at their whole miserable society. An excellent short story leaving plenty of room for thought.

Though set in 1955, the story is entirely relevant today. Despite much-touted progress, we still judge each other harshly based on appearance and assumptions. Everything changes … but maybe not so much.

For lots more information about the book and its author, stop by the authors’ website: 4 Writers and Readers. Pure Trash is available on Kindle and as a paperback from Amazon.

HereĀ Is What Amazon Reviewers Are Saying:

ā€œEllie has written an engrossing psychological mystery. The characters are very realistic and well-developed. I was involved in the story and couldn’t wait to see what happened next. The plot was well paced so there were surprises throughout the novel. I hope Ellie writes many more novelsā€.
ā€œA must-read mystery with great depth of characters!” 5 Stars

ā€œI love mysteries and this one has every element, making it a great read! Keeping you guessing until the end, it gives you just enough little clues along the way for the weary reader. But in addition to being a mystery, it also explores the psyche of the characters and their relationships, giving the novel a richness and depth to it. Yes, this is definitely a ā€œpage-turnerā€, but it also is a book that gets you thinkingā€!
