About Murder “Among The Tombstones”:

“A Clara and Iris Mystery”

When Atlanta homicide detectives are called in to investigate the murder of a nineteen-year-old girl found dumped in historic Oakland Cemetery, they immediately begin working the case. But with no leads to follow, and their case log growing larger by the day, the murder quickly grows cold.

Desperate to keep the investigation of her deceased sister going, Ginger Baines hires two novice sleuths to solve the case. Widowed, well into their seventies, and new to the world of private investigating, Clara Samples and Iris Hadley aren’t your average private eyes.

When a second body is found in a neighboring cemetery, the plot thickens. With two bodies wrapped, almost lovingly, in a soft blanket before being discarded in a cemetery, could a serial killer be on the loose?

Joined by their young apprentice Quita, Clara and Iris are determined to stop at nothing to find the killer before they can strike again.

But, will their bodies be the next ones discovered among the tombstones?

Amazing New Amazon Kindle Reviews for KIM CARTER MYSTERIES:

This book is like reading two stories in one; which I enjoyed immensely. Each chapter rotates between a homicide detective and a case he & his partner are working on and two novice sleuths in their seventies who have opened their own private investigation office.

While the detectives are focused on a case of a murdered young woman whose body was dumped in a cemetery, they soon find themselves victims themselves of a shooting incident by possible drug dealers. Their story is nitty-gritty and involves not only trying to physically heal from multiple gunshot wounds, but also trying to solve both cases.

The novice sleuths are focused on trying to fit into this new millennium with smartphones, texting, GPS, and something called Google. These ladies humorously work cases including insurance fraud, but soon find themselves also investigating the body dumped in the cemetery.

With a combination of suspense and thriller (the detective story) and humor and madcap adventure (the PI story), this book has it all for several difference genres of mystery fans. I enjoyed how the story mixed together in the last half of the book and how the elderly PI’s were able to help the injured seasoned detective solve the case. Read more

I have not had the pleasure of reading a Kim Carter novel before. I have already ordered the first book in order to find out how Clara and Iris started. I will say that I laughed and cried during this novel. Clara and Iris are a hoot but they get the job done. I love how Ms. Carter brings this story to life. I thought I would be reading a cozy mystery but I found out that I was reading a full-fledged mystery.

When a dead girl’s body turns up in the cemetery, and it isn’t buried, Atlanta homicide detectives are called. However, with very little to go on the case soon becomes cold.

When another body is discovered in another cemetery, it looks like it may be a serial killer. With the detectives taken out of action, the first young woman’s sister hires Clara and Iris to find the killer. However, it looks like the murder may go unsolved. With supporting characters Sugar and Quita as well as various police, this mystery is a fun read. I wasn’t able to figure out the killer until the end.

I highly recommend this book. Since I love Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, I was really drawn in!

Jordan Maxwell had originally moved to New York to make a name for herself as a freelance journalist. However, her great-uncle, recently deceased, has left her his massive estate in Maine.

As Jordan is packing for the move there, her neighbor is brutally stabbed. After seeing about her neighbor in the hospital, Jordan moves. Her life is about to change in more ways than one The small town, Solomon Cove in Maine is a post-card town, as idyllic as they come, yet a woman’s body is found on the beach. Other bodies are found in quick succession.

Jordan begins to wonder if the murders are somehow connected to her and to her extended family. What’s more, Jordan believes that she may be the next target. When Dawn Never Comes is a re-issue and for that, I’m thankful because I wouldn’t have had the chance to read it otherwise.

The story is very well written and draws the reader in and has an amazing twist. Why is Jordan connected? The discovery is stunning, making this book was impossible to put down!

Many thanks to NetGalley and to Raven South Publishing for this book to review!!

Nov 6, 2018 – Perfect Mystery Thriller!
Format: Paperback

This is a good murder mystery with a touch of a psychological thriller, first published in 2016 and now re-released by new publisher Raven South Publishing …

Jordan leaves New York City for Maine when she inherits a house from an unknown uncle. When she arrives, the murders in the small town start and she must figure out her family’s past to prevent her own death. This is the first Kim Carter book I’ve read and she does a good job of holding your interest with a well thought out plot and clues.  It is a perfect stand-alone story. I received a copy of the book for a fair and honest review.

~Writer’s Interview With Mystery Thriller Author, Kim (Herron) Carter~

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m the mother of three grown children and live in Atlanta, Ga. I’ve written eight novels, four of which have been published, and I’m currently working on my first series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Sweet Dreams Baby Belle is my latest book and it was actually inspired by a young child’s tombstone in the Biloxi City Cemetery in Mississippi. Although the book is fiction, her small broken monument touched and inspired me. After two years of research to discover the truth about Baby Belle, we were able to find out very little about her short life. This mystery is a tribute to that little girl who died in the late 1800’s.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always write in my pajamas. I mean, who doesn’t want to be comfortable? I also write best when it’s raining. I have a sound machine with thunder and lightning, but it’s just not the same as when it’s storming outside.

What author’s or books have influenced you?
I’ve been influenced by so many great mystery writers starting with Sue Grafton. I also love Iris Johansen, Karin Slaughter, and Mary Higgins Clark.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a series that is actually a spin-off of Sweet Dreams Baby Belle. I just wasn’t quite ready to let go of some of those characters.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesomegang of course! But. I have to give some ‘Kudos’ to my little book promoter – Catherine at Lyon Book & Social Media Promotions has done an excellent job in getting my mystery books out to the readers who will enjoy them.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t let anyone discourage you! I’m trying to get thicker skin but sometimes it’s difficult.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My mother told me all the time as a child and often as an adult that ‘practice makes perfect’. Some days my writing is better than others and I’m not afraid to delete a sub-par day of writing.

What are you reading now?
The Witches by Stacy Schiff

What’s next for you as a writer?
To continue writing for as long as I enjoy it. I have a new book almost done to release early summer 2016, which is book 2 of the Sweet Dreams series.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh wow, just 3 or 4? Could I take 3 or 4 books from each of my favorite all-time authors? That’s not fair, I know, but I’m going for it… Nathaniel Hawthorne, Sue Grafton’s Alphabet Series, Beverly Cleary, and John Steinbeck.

Sweet Dreams, Baby Belle by Kim Carter
Reviewed by Lia Farrell

Lizzie is just barely making it as a waitress when she meets Dr. Grant Chatsworth, and their quick courtship ends in what seems to be a picture-perfect marriage. Not only is Dr. Chatsworth tall and good-looking, but he is also a renowned cardiac surgeon and researcher into a new treatment for congestive heart failure. But when Lizzie moves into Dr. Chatsworth’s estate, things begin to go sour very quickly.

Lizzie soon finds herself a captive, cut off from her sister Maggie—her only family—under Housekeeper Flossie’s increasingly baleful eye. She is miserable and wants to leave: not only does she no longer love Grant, but she is increasingly suspicious that his research might be bogus. During a party intended to lure wealthy investors for her husband’s research, Lizzie faints. Flossie immediately suspects that she’s pregnant, which galvanized Lizzie into launching an escape plan.

Clara, Dr. Chatsworth’s nurse, also suspects he might be up to something, and joins causes with Lizzie, skimming money from the practice to help Lizzie escape to her sister’s house. Only able to venture outside after dark, Lizzie finds a gravestone in the Old Biloxi City Cemetery, labeled only “Baby Belle”. Feeling that Baby Belle is trying to contact her from beyond the grave gives Lizzie purpose, especially when she realizes the graves in that area are all labeled “Lunatic”. Lizzie is determined to unravel the mystery of Baby Belle and to achieve justice for the little lamb whose gravestone doesn’t even bear her last name.

As Grant Chatsworth’s empire begins to crumble, he becomes determined to find Lizzie and kill her before she can reveal what she knows. Can Lizzie stay hidden long enough to have her baby? Will Grant Chatsworth be shown up for the fraud that he is? Will the mystery of Baby Belle’s life and death save Lizzie, or kill her before Grant Chatsworth can?

Kim Carter’s Sweet Dreams, Baby Belle is a fast-paced action story with a subplot of messages from beyond the grave. It’s just the slightly spooky thing for readers who are interested in psychic phenomena.

We happened to meet through a few social media sites we both visit, and we are in a couple of the same writer groups on LinkedIn, a professional networking site. I reached out to her because when I read more about her, I said to myself, “I must have her on my book/media blog” as a ‘Special Guest Author Spotlight’ …
I just had to share her with all of you, my friends and readers here. I have no idea how she finds the time, but this woman is into loads of projects, writing and authoring books, as she is everywhere on social media. WHY?
Because she is such a prolific, fantastic mystery writer and author, that’s why!
Starting with her first published book, “The Garden of Souls” …

About Garden Of Souls:

During a routine archaeological excavation in Israel, two archaeologists, a priest and his best friend, uncover an unusual map that leads to the Biblical burial cave of Abraham and Sarah. While on their expedition to find the cave, antiquity thieves learn of their quest and relentlessly pursue the archaeologists, hoping to sell the famous bones on the black market for millions, maybe more. The thieves, who are willing to risk murder to secure the theft, are limited only by a determined FBI Agent, who is willing to risk his life to protect the archaeologists, and a young woman, who is being used by the thieves to gain information about their quest. What they all find in the cave is well beyond the historical and biblical discovery of the bodies. What they find changes their lives and the lives of all mankind, forever.

Chéri Vausé has been a teacher of Theology for over twenty years, and has used the Catholic Ladder, a biblical timeline developed by the Jesuit missionary priests to convert the American Indian, as the structure for her three-pronged approach to Christian theology. This three-pronged approach is based on the Talmud, the Kabbala, and the Scriptures, especially the Torah.

About Her New Book:

Special Agent in Charge, Grantham “Grant” Greene has become disillusioned with his role in the FBI. He’s charged with leading the hunt for a bomber, targeting Women’s clinics in Oregon and Washington. With pressures from his boss and his ambitious father, Grant becomes even more discouraged as he works his way through the mire of evidence. His discovery of the actions of a beautiful woman, who has supposedly committed suicide, leads him to believe that, along-side the bombings, he may also be investigating a murder. With the potential for a nationwide political scandal, Grant has just one weekend to uncover the identity of the bomber. As he delves deeper, and tragedy strikes, Grant starts to question his views and wonder if it’s possible to fall in love with someone you’ve never even met.

A classic cozy mystery that is both a thriller and a suspense novel with a touch of romance. To make it even more interesting objects become characters, add drama, and romance, and even the art tells a story…
.

About The Author and Message From Cheri Vause:

“There is a mystery in the heart of everyone, and everything. That is what makes life so interesting. This wonderful, immutable mystery is the basis of every good story, and the element that every writer tries to tap, then, liberally pour into their work. If the author is successful, then the reader will reach for another book, and another, and…

Some writers want to gather the sparks of creation and heal the world. If I am able to gather only one spark, then my life has been successful”.

Author of the explosive and controversial novel, “The Truth and Nothing but Lies”, and the new upcoming mystery, “The Night Shadow”…

Chéri is a theologian, a photographer, and an author. She is the mother of two sets of twins born on the same day fourteen years apart. Presently, she lives on a small ranch in the heart of Texas with her husband and a coy-dog named Scully. – See more at: http://www.gwlpublishing.co.uk/cheri-vause/#sthash.PCdp221n.dpuf
Now you all know that I only ask TWO questions of all my ‘Guest Authors’, and my friend Cheri will be no different. Here are her two questions and how she replied.

1.) How did you begin your passion for writing?

I began writing theological pieces for a Human Life newsletter, and I also wrote a few newspaper pieces. Before that I wrote poetry, not for publication, but just for myself. I did have a poetry reading in college once, but I preferred to keep my thoughts to myself.

It wasn’t until I came across this fascinating story in the Talmud, which is a compilation of scriptural commentaries by great Jewish sages, that I became interested in writing a book. My husband encouraged me to try and get it published, so I began the arduous task of sending out queries to agents. It was rejected dozens of times, and then I rewrote it, based on the comments by agents who took the time to help me. I think I rewrote that book about four times and then published it myself. I only sold a few copies, but I was hooked. I honed my skills further by writing dozens of short stories and sparked the interest of several traditional publishers. Now, I’m with a wonderful independent publishing house based in the United Kingdom. My second book with them is coming out in September, and my third in February.

2.) Has there been anyone special event that was exciting to you about being a writer & author?

I couldn’t say that there was a specific event, but I would say that I’ve met the best people on the planet since I’ve been published. I’ve managed to help several authors, maybe one to be traditionally published from being a self-published one and going nowhere, I’ve made contacts with two wonderful screenplay writers, and I have been blessed with people in my town willing to help me launch my books. I feel blessed.
—-
Now in closing, we all know how important reviews are for us writers and authors. And they can tell a lot about a book. Here are a couple Amazon reviews Cheri Vause’s books have received so far.
.

Review Of “The Garden of Souls” & “The Truth and Nothing but Lies”

This review is from: THE GARDEN OF SOULS (Kindle Edition)

This is one of those books that is extremely difficult to put down. Imagine for a moment what archaeological discovery would prove the Bible to be accurate beyond refute. Add in a Priest, an archaeologist, and a young woman who may or may not be involved with a Russian Cartel who profits in stolen antiquities who are searching for the same answers and assurances we all crave, and you have an epic story that leaves you begging for more from the unusual trio. Toss in Interpol, the Ministerial Committee for Holy Places, the Vatican, and the Israeli Antiquities Authority and you have the ingredients for an epic that will survive the generations. The author has built a modern mystery based on an incredible base of research that will keep you engaged from beginning to end.

I would love to see this as a movie. The author brings the settings and characters alive (positive and negative character traits). “And the truth shall set you free.”

Fans of Angels & Demons and Raiders of the Lost Ark will enjoy this!  5 Stars!

.
This review is from: The Truth and Nothing but Lies (Kindle Edition)

The Truth and Nothing but Lies by CheriVause is a well-crafted suspense/thriller following the exploits of FBI agent Grant Greene. A bombing of a women’s clinic in the sleepy town of Astoria, Oregon results in his father, Governor Porter Greene, pulling strings to get Grant assigned to the high-profile case.CBN reporter Hector Rodriguez is also drawn into the case as famed abortion Dr.Sanji Kumar is suspected of being the target of pro-life activists. Grant’s interview of Miriam Elliot provides him an angle in investigating Kumar, who has had connections with the CIA in his earlier life as a double agent. What appeared to be a career-enhancing case for Grant becomes a perilous voyage into a storm of conspiracy and murder in Vause’s fast-paced tale.
.
The discussion of pro-choice alternatives provides the moral essence of the plot. Kumar’s moral values appear to depreciate as both the direction of his life, and his personal choices create greater dissonance in remaining true to his Hippocratic oath. We see how his decision to defect to the CIA has already compromised his sense of loyalty. Committing himself to perform abortions places him on yet another cutting edge as he is faced with the monumental debate between pro and anti-abortion activists. Though far from a tragic figure, we can see how medical professionals can be impacted by life choices in straying from a path that we as a society see as both righteous and unimpeachable.
.
For suspense/thriller fans and all readers that enjoy a cerebral mystery (with no sexploitation or foul language), The Truth and Nothing but Lies by Cheri Vause is a worthy addition to your collection.  5 Stars!

.
